Nach einer friedlich abgelaufenen Wahl sind diese Spaltung in zwei Lager neben der Eindämmung der organisierten Kriminalität und der schwierigen wirtschaftlichen Lage die größten Herausforderungen für den Wahlsieger.

Each year, Americas Market Intelligence presents an outlook of how we see LatAm payments over the course of the year. In the past, we have published ONE article with 3 sections on “The Good,” “The Bad,” and “The Ugly.” But this year, based on feedback from readers, they thought it would better serve the audience to devote one article to each of these areas.

As always, “The Good” is about positive developments currently taking place or that we expect to happen over the course of the year or even in the near term. “The Bad” is obviously the negative outcomes we are currently seeing or foresee taking place in LatAm payments. Finally, “The Ugly” typically refers to “black swans,” developments that could happen but are usually worst-case scenarios of possibilities based on our analysis.

Für fast alle Staaten Südamerikas hat Trump „nur“ den reziproken Mindestzoll von 10 Prozent verhängt. Was ist der Grund dafür und welche Folgen könnte das für die Region haben?

Südamerika atmet auf. Donald Trump hat an seinem „Tag der Befreiung“ die südamerikanischen Staaten bei seiner Zollerhöhungsoffensive nur mit den niedrigsten Importzöllen bedacht. Mit Ausnahme von Venezuela werden die Importe aller Staaten „nur“ um zehn Prozent erhöht.

Davon ausgenommen sind die bereits erfolgten Zollerhöhungen für Stahl und Aluminium. Auch für Mexiko gelten ab sofort die bereits vor einigen Wochen angekündigten Importzölle von 25 Prozent.

Warum Südamerika im Vergleich zu den Schwellenländern aus Südostasien vergleichsweise glimpflich davon kommt – darüber lässt sich nur spekulieren. Ein Blick in die Handelsbilanzen hilft weiter: Mit allen großen Volkswirtschaften Südamerikas erzielen die USA Handelsüberschüsse. Es gibt also keinen rationalen Grund, südamerikanische Exporte mit Importzöllen zu belegen, wenn man – wie Trump offensichtlich – Außenhandelsdefizite abbauen will und diese negativ bewertet.

In response, businesses across the region are reevaluating trade relationships, with some seeking new export destinations and others pushing for preferential agreements to soften the impact. Foreign direct investment flows are also likely to be affected, with investors recalibrating their strategies in response to shifting policies. Latin American lawmakers are now weighing their options, balancing short-term economic disruptions with long-term opportunities to capture market share in a rapidly transforming global landscape.

The food and beverage industry in Latin America is facing a pivotal moment. Ich lade euch ein, in diesem Sinne geerdet den neuen Kunstmonat mit mir zu entdecken. An dem Tag, an dem ich diesen Newsletter schreibe, hat der Himmel dieselbe Farbe wie das sinnliche, fragile Kunstwerk Disremembered XV (2023–2024) von Doris Salcedo – ein gedämpftes Grau.

Aus der Ferne wirkt das Werk, ein aus Seidenfäden und unzähligen Nadeln zusammengesetztes Hemd, wie eine zarte Skulptur, deren Ästhetik zum Näherkommen einlädt. Doch wer genauer hinsieht, spürt das Gewicht des in ihr verwobenen Schmerzes und der stillen Wut. Dieses Werk stammt aus der Serie Disremembered (2014-2024) und ist das Ergebnis aus Begegnungen der Künstlerin mit amerikanischen Müttern, die ihre Kinder durch Waffengewalt verloren haben.

Disremembered XV wurde eigens für die Sammlung der Staatsgalerie Stuttgart geschaffen und durch die Freunde der Staatsgalerie e.V. erworben. Das ist der zweite Ankauf eines Salcedo-Werks durch ein öffentliches Museum in Deutschland.
