Bis die supranationalen Institutionen der nächsten globalen Ordnung jedoch geschaffen worden sind, muss gerade für Europa die Strategie sein, einerseits die eigene Souveränität zu stärken und andererseits die Märkte möglichst offen zu halten – auch durch neue Handelsabkommen, zum Beispiel mit Ländern wie Vietnam, möglichen Energie- und Rohstofflieferanten in Südamerika oder sogar einem neuen Versuch mit den USA.

Climatescope's ranking of the most attractive markets for renewable energy projects investment. Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Dominican Republic are the most attractive countries for renewable energy investment in Latin America, according to the Climatescope survey. In fact, the top four nations in the region are among the top 20 most attractive markets for clean energy investment overall. One factor in common is that all of them have well established and effective policies, in addition to structured power sectors open for private investors. Latin America expects to install 3.6GW of wind and 13GW of solar capacity by 2025, according to BNEF’s 1H 2022 Latin America Market Outlook. Brazil is expected to install 57% of the total wind and solar capacity, while Chile and Colombia are expected to account for 10% and 5%, respectively, of the region’s projected new wind and solar. Colombia and Peru increased their clean energy installed capacity by 36% and 20%, respectively, from 2018 to 2021. They are also expecting to hold new auctions in coming years. On the other hand, Latin America accounted for only 6% of the global clean energy investment in 2021, at $12.9 billion. Investment in the region is highly concentrated with the top five nations accounting for 93% of the total.

Der Autor analysiert die Ursachen der sozialen Unruhen sowie den Weg bis zum Referendum über eine neue Verfassung im September. Dabei setzt er sich auch kritisch mit den Gründen für die Ablehnung auseinander.

Trotz der Ablehnung des Vorschlags wird der Prozess für eine Änderung der Verfassung fortgesetzt werden; die Bevölkerung sowie die meisten politischen Akteure unterstützen dies. Die große Herausforderung besteht nun darin, die Errungenschaften und Innovationen wie Geschlechtergerechtigkeit und Umweltschutz auch im Folgenden beizubehalten und gleichzeitig einen tragfähigen politischen Kompromiss zu finden. Gegenwärtig werden verschiedene Optionen eines Folgeprozesses diskutiert.

Eine VDMA-Konjunkturumfrage vom November 2022 besagt, dass Brasilien für die Maschinen- und Anlagenbauer aus Deutschland auch nach der jüngsten Präsidentenwahl ein attraktiver Standort bleibt. Es gibt positive Erwartungen an Umsatz und Auftragseingang, moderne Anlagen zur Modernisierung des Landes werden benötigt. Jedoch wirft die Ausgabenpolitik Lulas noch Fragen auf. Knapp 80 Mitgliedsfirmen in Brasilien haben sich an der Umfrage beteiligt und die Hälfte der Befragten erwartet einen steigenden Auftragseingang im nächsten Quartal.

Fiscal sustainability will continue to be the main challenge of the next government. It is not a matter of concern with the fiscal numbers of 2022, which will again be better than expected, but rather with the trajectory ahead. The next government will have to decide, in the short term, whether to continue the aid and tax cuts that have just been implemented, as well as the fiscal framework that will be applied ahead in an emerging economy with high public debt and high interest rates. This is a discussion that probably will determine the first half of 2023. There is an estimation of a primary surplus of 1.1% of GDP in 2022 (previously: 1.0%), a deficit of 1.5% in 2023 and gross debt at 74% and 78% of GDP this year and next, respectively. Economic activity growth is expected to lose momentum in the second half of the year. Itaú expects the GDP to grow 0.4% in the 3rd quarter and 0.1% in the fourth quarter, closing the year at 2.7% (from 2.5% in the previous scenario). For 2023, there will be an increase of 0.7% (from 0.5%), with a better outlook for agricultural crops. for the labor market, data suggest that projections foresee an unemployment rate of 8.6% (from 9.1%) in 2022 and of 9.3% (from 10.1%) in 2023.

Against the backdrop of the 10th anniversary of the EU-Central America Association Agreement, the European Union is organizing the forum on “Renewable Energies”, which will take place on Friday 9th September 2022 in Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Germany.

This is an opportunity for EU participants to create global synergies and explore opportunities with representatives from the Governments of Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panamá, as well as with Central American energy investors and operators. A careful selection of EU and Central American panelists, both from the public and private sectors, will present the progress of the renewable energy in the region and explore opportunities to advance the involvement of EU businesses, with a focus on green hydrogen.The event is organized by the European Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation and Growth of Hamburg, the Lateinamerika Verein and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

Vor 20 Jahren nannte eine Literaturzeitschrift Tomás González "den bestgehüteten Geheimtipp der kolumbianischen Literatur". Inzwischen ist er international als einer der großen Erzähler Lateinamerikas anerkannt. Seine Kunst ist die Vermählung der Extreme: zu zeigen, dass das Schöne und das Schreckliche, Glück und Unglück ganz nah beieinander liegen.  Ein Satz, der ihn charakterisiert: "In einer stinkigen Bar, bei schmalziger Tangomusik, saß der Mann mit der Stichwunde und blutete und trank Bier."   1950 in Medellín geboren, studierte Tomás González Philosophie, war Barmann in einer Diskothek in Bogotá, betrieb eine Fahrradmontage-Werkstatt in Miami und lebte 16 Jahre lang als Journalist und Übersetzer in New York. 2002 kehrte er nach Kolumbien zurück und lebt heute am Ufer und auf dem Stausee von Guatapé bei Medellín. Moderator des Abends ist González´ deutscher Übersetzer Peter Schultze-Kraft. Autor und Moderator lesen Texte aus dem im letzten Jahr erschienenen Erzählband „Die stachelige Schönheit der Welt“ und laden im Anschluss daran zu einer Diskussion ein. Nach der Veranstaltung wird der Autor Bücher signieren und die Gäste haben Gelegenheit zum Gespräch mit ihm bei einem Glas Wein.
