Während die Kooperationsprojekte weit hinter den Erwartungen zurück bleiben, stehen nun die Fortschritte des lateinamerikanischen Wirtschaftsregionalismus im Vordergrund, auf Grund dessen sich internationale Organisationen wie die Interamerikanische Entwicklungsbank, der Internationale Währungsfonds oder die Weltbankgruppe stark für die Schaffung einer LAC-Freihandelszone aussprechen. Die Frage ist dann, wie das intraregionale Handelsvolumen erhöht werden kann.

Recent trade discord highlights the need for creation of a free-trade area
A variety of regional organizations in Latin America, such as UNASUR, are currently in crisis or about to be dissolved. While cooperation projects are far below expectations, the focus is now on the progress of Latin American economic regionalism, with international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group strongly supporting the creation of an LAC free-trade area. A concomitant issue for this is the intraregional trading volume, which has to be increased.
