Since Panama assumed full control of the Canal in 1999, the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) has doubled the capacity with a US$5.25bn expansion launched in 2008 and completed when Neo Panamax locks were inaugurated in 2016. In 2024, PCA registered the largest container ship of 17,640 TEUs. Investments have totaled US$15bn over the past 25 years including US$10bn in capital expenditures and US$5bn in operational and 
maintenance expenses.

Ein polarisiertes Land steht vor einer entscheidenden Stichwahl

Nach der Wahl ist vor der Wahl – so könnte man die politische Lage in Ecuador nach dem Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen in der ersten Runde der Präsidentschaftswahlen beschreiben. Präsident Daniel Noboa und seine linkspopulistische Herausforderin Luisa González werden sich am 13. April 2025 in einer offenen Stichwahl erneut gegenüberstehen. Dabei stehen nicht zuletzt in der Außenpolitik zwei grundsätzlich entgegengesetzte politische Projekte zur Wahl.

The Atlas reflects Ecuador’s leadership in global agroexports and positions the country as a benchmark in attracting strategic investments that promote equity, decent employment and decent living conditions in rural communities. Ecuador has consolidated its position as one of the region’s leading agrifood economies, being the world’s leading exporter of products such as bananas, shrimp and pitahaya.

The agrifood sector is one of the fundamental pillars of the Ecuadorian economy, contributing 15% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employing one out of every three people in the country. Its importance lies not only in agricultural, livestock and fisheries production, but also in its capacity to generate employment and improve living conditions in rural areas.

The Agroeconomic Atlas of Ecuador offers a comprehensive and updated view of the country’s agricultural production situation. It provides detailed data on agricultural, livestock and aquaculture production, highlighting both primary and processed products, which play a fundamental role in export dynamics and the domestic market. In 2023, Ecuador produced more than 7.2 million tons of agricultural products, excelling in crops such as bananas, cocoa and broccoli, while its fishing industry continues to be a key player in global markets such as the United States, the European Union and Japan

"Paisajes" zeigt die Arbeit der renommierten peruanischen Künstlerin Monica Luza, die uns in ihrer aktuellen Ausstellung auf eine Reise durch die faszinierende und sich verändernde Küstenlandschaft Perus mitnimmt, ein Gebiet, das die Heimat verschiedener präkolumbianischer Kulturen war, die in den Wüstenregionen der peruanischen Küste blühten. Diesmal richtet sich sein Blick auf die Veränderung dieser Landschaften durch die gegenwärtigen menschlichen Aktivitäten und den Prozess der modernen Urbanisierung, der in Form von unfertigen Häusern und Siedlungen in die Landschaft eindringt. Die Ausstellung lädt den Betrachter dazu ein, die sich verändernde Küstenlandschaft Perus zu entdecken, einen Ort, der sowohl Zeuge einer reichen Vergangenheit als auch einer sich rasch verändernden Gegenwart ist.
